Today we got our teams and learned more about the project. I was assigned as team leader and got an instruction manuel laying out the main tasks we will have to complete when building our ROV. Once the blog was set up I wrote my team bio and learned how to use the blog, a difficult task since I am not very tech savvy. Today was challenging because we got a lot of information and now our job is to decide where to go from here, which was hard being one team member down. Next class we will finalize everyone's tasks and jobs they will be in charge of, and hopefully begin building our ROV.

Today we worked on 2 pages, the what is an ROV page, and the challenge page. I researched a lot about ROVs and wrote multiple paragraphs for the page. I got to learn about multiple ROVs that are currently being used for real research and exploration. At the end of class we had our interview and got out box of materials for building our ROV. Next class we will be able to start building!

Today we spent the beginning of class watching videos that showed us how to complete our role for building the ROV. Since I will be building the frame I watched videos about cutting and drilling holes in the PVC pipe, and putting the frame together. After this I started measuring out the PVC pipe with a ruler and sharpie so they were ready to be cut. After a short safety briefing I cut all of the PVC pipe to the appropriate lengths. Now they are ready to be drilling next class!

Today I was working on the frame for the ROV. Rosse and I drilled all the holes in the RVC pipe. She did a lot of the drilling while I helped label the pipes so we drill in the right places. As she finished drilling I began assembling the frame. It was not as hard as I though it would be, and we were able to finish it! Since that part is done, next class I will probably help James with the motors so that we can move forward with the project.

Today I attached the net to the bottom of the ROV frame. After that I helped James with the motors, which involved stripping wires and waxing the motors. Next class we will attach all the pieces together!

I was absent today. My team used the class to test out our ROV in the water, and made sure it could move horizontally and vertically. To make this up I helped brainstorm ideas with my group members about how to improve out ROV. I also wrote my daily log at home with our updates from today! I have set up a time on tuesday during G period to help Mrs.S clean up from the project.

Today my team practiced for the third challenge, and unfortunately I was absent due to another field trip for a different class. They used the pool and practiced picking up octopuses, and used hangers to do so. I made sure to keep in touch with them to make sure I knew of the changes being made and stayed in the loop! To make up my missed time I will go to the pool during lunch on wednesday to help Mrs.S set up the challenges for us to practice on during class after lunch.

Today was our last day to work on our ROV. I helped find a place to attach the camera. Using velcro we decided to have 2 places for our camera, on the left and rides sides of our ROV. The velcro is higher on the right side and lower on the left so we have multiple options on where to put our camera. The last thing we did was organize all of our stuff into our bag so it is ready for our next class when we will test out our ROVs in the pool!
